For with You is the fountain of life; in your light, we see light. Psalm 36:9
That photo sums me up well: mom, photographer, messy pony-tail wearer. I have been married to my Marine for thirteen years and in that time we've been given four amazing little people to love. I once sent kid photos by the hundreds to friends and family as a way of keeping them connected to our growing, military-moving lives. One day it dawned on me that what I really wanted to share were the most special moments, the I wish you could have been there moments, and dumping a couple hundred snapshots of baby's first bath into their inboxes probably wasn't sending that message. That is how the blog was born.
I called it The Zinnia Patch after a plot of ground in my North Carolina front yard where I had scattered thousands of wildflower seeds just to see what would happen. It was the zinnias that exploded in a riot of color (along with a few strong willed cosmos that towered over my head.) That chaotic garden full of weeds and thorns was beautiful: incredibly, wildly beautiful. Also, it attracted a lot of attention out there by the road. People would stop and gawk much like they do now when I take my circus along to the grocery store. Maybe that's why life and family remind me of that zinnia patch...or is it the other way around?
This blog is a record of our messy and colorful days. It is how I remember the blessing. Even through drought and storm there is beauty to be found, if only we have the Light to see it.
