my garden

the amaranths
It's only a few pots now.  Mint, peppers, basil and the amaranths, of course.  When I start to miss my old garden, I step out the front door and and say hello to these (while trying to ignore the pampas grass on the other side of the door that the neighborhood landscapers keep chopping up with the hedge trimmers...)

  1. Speaking of gardens: a question for you. Do you know if deer like to eat hydrangeas? I remember that you're experienced with rabbits - not sure if your critter experience extends to deer.

  2. I don't know a lot about them specifically, but I do know deer can dish out A LOT of garden frustration. Are your plants looking chewed on??
I think deer like many of the same things as the rabbits...and avoid the same things as well.

  3. I read that deer don't like the smell of soap (specifically Irish Spring), so some people put pieces of soap in their garden. I did it a few weeks ago after deer were eating my tomatoes, and a day later, all the soap was gone, too. That's not really what I was going for, but I haven't had any problems with deer since. :)

  4. You always seems to add a touch of beautiful to whatever you put your hands to. Love those amaranths. The amaranth population in North Carolina has grown significantly thanks to you.

  5. love those little purple flowers! Miss having them in our garden. Lex and I worked on the perennial hedge this morning --- it's looking pretty ragged. Lost a blue spruce scrub in front of the garage due to 'bag-worms'----something that I had no experience with. Fortunately friends came over and rescued the blue spruce tree and the other spruce scrub. ...guess one can't stay away from the garden for 3 months and expect it to thrive! luv d

  6. I can completely empathize with the landscaper frustration! Oooooh- don't they see how terrible it looks when they're done??!
