"There is only one 'basic rule' in flower arrangement. And that is to love the flowers, to listen to what they have to say, to watch the way they dance, and then to allow them to express themselves in their own sweet way."
Beverley Nichols, The Art of Flower Arrangement
an end of day update after viewing my own post...
{The Lilacs above are from Christy's beautiful garden. The great book was a birthday gift from my sister, Christie. I set out a bowl with one or two of Laura's Camellias in her kitchen and then it quickly became stuffed full of the flowers as all our sweet little helping hands wanted to pitch in. I don't have a picture yet (you know I will soon) but sitting on my table is an antique stoneware creamer from Grams brimming with purple Verbena flowers. Oh and after posting a Beverly Nichols quote this morning, what do you suppose arrived on my doorstep this afternoon? A Beverly Nichols book -as well as a great Jamie Oliver cookbook- from Shawn's mom! So in response to Christy's comment, I think this simple post has spoken volumes to me today about the truly wonderful, kind, generous and like-minded women I am blessed to have in my life.
Perhaps what Mr. Nichols said of his beloved flowers one could also say of her girlfriends, sisters, mothers...
love them, listen to them, watch them and allow them to express themselves in their own sweet way.}
So glad it arrived. :) Happy birthday. Gorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteyou have more talent in one strand of hair on your head than most people dream of having in their lifetime. it's amazing how in one blog entry you can encapsulate a few of your many hobbies...flower arranging/gardening/great literature/photograhy/decorating... all in two pictures and one quote.... Brilliant, Kel, Brilliant. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words and you have two.:)
ReplyDeleteKelli,
ReplyDeleteI have savored from afar how you have enriched the lives of all of us with being the fragrance of Christ through your precious friendship, your photos that have marked the milestones in all of our lives, and your gardening that has every metaphor of scripture deeply "rooted" in its beauty.
With love from Christy's mom, a fellow flower arranger!
